The Higher Diploma in Banking & Finance (HDBF) is a comprehensive program designed for professionals seeking advanced expertise in the banking and financial services sector. To enroll in the HDBF program, candidates must fulfill one of the following:

  • Completion of the Diploma in Banking & Finance (DBF) offered by IBSL. 
  • Degree from a recognized university in Sri Lanka or a foreign university approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
  • Professional qualification equivalent to the Diploma level from a recognized institute.
  • Any other qualification acceptable to IBSL.

What is the Higher Diploma in Banking & Finance (HDBF)?

The HDBF is an advanced-level qualification designed for individuals seeking to develop specialized knowledge in banking operations, credit management, international trade, and strategic leadership.

The program is open to individuals who have completed:

  • Diploma in Banking & Finance (DBF).
  • A recognized degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Any qualification acceptable to IBSL.

The program consists of two semesters with the following subjects:

Semester I:

  • Central Banking and Monetary Policy
  • Law Relating to Banking and Practice of Banking
  • Credit Management
  • International Trade and Finance (Optional)
  • Corporate Governance and Ethics

Semester II:

  • Compliance and Regulations
  • Risk Management and IS Security
  • Strategic Leadership
  • Advanced Quantitative Techniques (Optional)

The program is designed to be completed in 1 year, divided into two semesters.

Students are assessed through:

  • Mid-term Exam: 40%
  • Final Exam: 60%
    A minimum of 50% is required in both exams to pass.
