Course Overview

The Information and Communication Technology Technician (ICTT) NVQ Level 04 is a comprehensive vocational program designed to take students from foundational computer literacy to practical, entry-level IT proficiency.

As per the standard curriculum mandated by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) in Sri Lanka, the course is structured into technical competencies and essential workplace skills.

Program Summary

  • Duration: Typically 1 Year (6 months of academic/practical training followed by 6 months of On-the-Job Training).

  • Medium of Instruction: Sinhala, English, or mixed medium depending on the institute.

  • Objective: To produce skilled technicians capable of handling office applications, basic networking, web and graphic design, database management, and routine hardware troubleshooting.

Core Technical Modules

These modules focus on the hands-on technical skills required for daily IT operations and application development:

  • Use the computer and manage files within standard operating systems
  • Perform word processing
  • Preparing spread sheets
  • Preparing presentations
  • Performing basic operations of cloud computing including internet and email services
  • Handle relational database
  • Conduct routine maintenance services of computer system and peripherals  
  • Producing Print Page Layout and multimedia objects
  • Systems Analysis and Designing
  • Handle relational databases using standard SQL
  • Designing static Website
  • Developing Desktop applications

Employability & Workplace Skills (Basic Units)

  • Practice workplace communication and interpersonal relations
  • Apply occupational literacy and numeracy
  • Work in a team
  • Practice occupational health and safety measures

Entry Requirements

  • G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L): The most common requirement is a pass in 6 subjects at the G.C.E. (O/L) examination, usually including credits in English and Mathematics (or sometimes Science).

           OR

  • NVQ Level 03: If you do not meet the O/L criteria, holding an NVQ Level 03 qualification in an ICT-related field is typically accepted as an alternative entry route.
